As 2024 ends, we pause to celebrate the greatest gift to mankind, Jesus. We also reflect on and celebrate our accomplishments for 2024. We aim to ‘big up’ and highlight the skills and expertise of the tech community, be a bridge to facilitate business in locating local talents, and provide technical support, training, and network opportunities for our members. We are very appreciative of the support the Jamaican Developers Community has received and it has been a pleasure serving the tech community and we look forward to more growth and development of the Tech Industry.
In keeping with our aim, we have hosted Career Days to sensitize the public to some potential job areas in the tech industry. We have also hosted Demo days where participants are allowed to share some of the work they have done in various fields. Throughout the year we have hosted a total of 12 virtual events. If you missed it, please check out our content on YouTube ‘https://www.youtube.com/@jamdevco’. Whether you are interested in Machine learning, Decentralized Authentication, UI/UX, or animation we cover a broad area of Computer Science.
Included in our list of virtual events is our Open Mic Session where we discuss some of the challenges in the Tech Industry and share meaningful solutions and opportunities for collaboration. Knowledge is power and this session empowered many individuals.
While we note that virtual events are convenient, especially for professionals with a busy schedule, we saw it necessary to have physical events as well. We hosted a:
1. Two-day Cybersecurity training with one of Jamaica’s top hospitals
2. Career Day with one of the top High Schools in Kingston
3. 14-week Reading Program with a Public Primary School
4. Networking and Games Evening Session
5. Annual Road Trip
While we may post pictures or clips from some of your physical events, all the magic can not be captured. We encourage you to look out for our physical events and catch in on the fun, exciting, knowledge-sharing, and networking activities. Look out, especially for our Annual Road Trip. The 2024 Road Trip was a refreshing adventure. As is our tradition, we had loads of fun both inland and off the beautiful coast of Ocho Rios. For some of us, it was our first encounter with dolphins and the experience was truly breathtaking.
At the core of our community is people. Our ‘I <3 my Tech Job’ is one of our two Instagram competitions held in 2024 which allowed persons to share some positives that they have had in the Tech Field and six winners walked away with Amazon gift cards. We have onboarded 6 volunteers, provided mentorship opportunities to over 15 participants, and sponsored and lent our support to 5 Positively Impactful Nation Building Programs. We are present on social media and will continue to post informative, thought-provoking articles, posters, blogs, video clips, and posts. Check out our link tree to find us on any of the popular platforms of your choice.
The Jamaican Developers Community has had a phenomenal 2024. We have accomplished much but there is still more work to do. See you next year God’s willing for more ways to get involved, grow and innovate with us.
